colorful. sunnies.

Summer may not officially be in session until June 21st, but Memorial Day weekend is close enough. Cue the long summatime nights, endless crop of nautical stripes, and many strawberry granitas to come. But what’s missing? Ah, yes, a new pair of sunnies to hold you down for every upcoming beach-cation, excursion into the city and backyard BBQ.

When it comes to sunglasses, I find that I’m a bit of a style chameleon. Every summer, there tends to be a new It style that I gravitate toward. One year, it was ultra-glam tortoiseshell cat-eye frames — then mirrored aviators and Illesteva “Leonard” lookalikes (you know the ones) — and this summer I’m all about quirky, colorful frames. With rad brands like Carla Colour paving the way with their curated collection of mod geometric styles (available in a variety of vibrant colorways, BTW), flying under the radar isn’t even an option. Scroll on for five COLORFUL sunglasses that are guaranteed to get you noticed by the pool and on the streets of NYC.

Coco and Breezy Iris Sunglasses (Nylon Shop) // So. Much. Sass. Dial up the drama with these Twizzler red sunglasses that command attention.

The TV Eye Sunglasses in Caramel & Cream (Crap Eyewear) // Picture this: You, these color-dipped caramel ‘n’ cream sunnies and your most ridiculous pool float (cactus FTW!). Any takers? If goldenrod isn't your go-to hue, this sky blue pair is actually pretty dreamy.

Barton Sunglasses in Flesh + Haze (Carla Colour) // Two words: millennial pink. The girly girl in me is naturally smitten with these sleek frames that call for an eyelet white dress and lace-up espadrilles. Major swoon.

Lind Sunglasses in Gangreen + Haze (Carla Colour) // To be worn by the eternal aesthete who fancies afternoons spent at the Whitney and contemporary architecture.

Poppy Lissiman x Lazy Oaf Pastel Biscuit Sunglasses (Lazy Oaf) // Entrance like “whoa” is right. Sadly, these Poppy Lissiman x Lazy Oaf pastel shades are already out of stock, but they were too fun not to share. (Side note: If anyone knows of a similar pair, DM me ‘cuz these are ah-mazing.)

a. very. madewell. lewk.

I know, I know. More stripes. How utterly groundbreaking for someone who depends upon stripes on the reg?

But actually. For me, this look was new-ish. The addition of my favorite chambray shirt, the best high-waisted jeans on the planet (IMO, anyway) and some playful polka dot sneaks suddenly gave my typical uniform of stripes an anything-but-granola spin. Throw in my go-to bucket bag (still can't believe it's from Old Navy!) and some black-rimmed specs for a v Madewell lewk. No kidding, my stripes and minimalist ring necklace are actually from J.Crew's effortless-cool sister brand, so it's probably not all that shocking that I had a Madewell aesthetic going on. But I digress.

Another thing to note about this #OOTD is how casual and perfect it is for a weekend spent running errands. Thanks to my laidback kicks, it also proved to be ridiculously comfortable. < Praise hands emoji. > As for my black specs, I'm still getting used to them since they're merely an accessory at this point (read: I don't actually need glasses). I find that it takes just the right outfit and vibe to pull 'em off without feeling like I'm trying too hard. If *only* I could be Jenna Lyons' cool spectacle-wearing twin...

see it. want it. buy it.

I’m back, back again with new content! Apologies for the unannounced hiatus, but sometimes a little R&R is absolutely in order. Like any other self-proclaimed fashion person, I’m constantly on the hunt for the latest fill-in-the-blank wardrobe essential to invest in for the upcoming season. But then, there are always those $$$ pieces that are pretty wow-worthy in their own right. Here’s the potential start of a new series in which I spotlight a few well-calculated splurges that I could definitely justify, especially when you factor in cost per wear and all that jazz.

The Saddle Bag in Leather (Cambridge Satchel) // Cue the summer strolls in the English countryside — yes, I’m indeed dreaming. My inner prepster is swooning at the sight of this hands-free Cambridge Satchel saddle bag reimagined with classic blue Breton stripes (can you say MDW-ready?). Between upcoming getaways and weekend brunch dates, you won’t find a more versatile carryall to accompany you this summer. For #OOTD perfection, throw in an Audrey Hepburn-esque midi skirt, a streamlined blouse and some woven huaraches.

Mosebacke Pale Pink Raincoat (Stutterheim) // Dare I say it, we ALL need a rainy day slicker that makes us look forward to the prospect of rainy days. I recently stumbled across Stutterheim on Instagram, and let me tell ya, I’m obsessed with everything that this aesthetically pleasing brand has to offer. (Their tagline, “Swedish melancholy at its driest,” pretty much says it all.) Introducing the millennial pink raincoat of my dreams that I would undoubtedly reach for rain or shine. Non-femme crowd: There’s a slew of other covetable hues (ahem, rubbery ducky yellow!) available for your sartorial pleasure.

Chuck Taylor 1970s High-Top Sneakers (Comme des Garçons PLAY x Converse) // Since I’m apparently into sneakers these days (who am I?), I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m in dire need of some Chuck Taylors. But not just any old Chucks — I’ve got my sights set on Converse’s It girl-approved collab with Comme des Garçons PLAY. The black high-tops featuring the brand’s iconic peekaboo heart, to be exact. I imagine teaming these bad boys with everything from denim cutoffs and streamlined button-downs to carefree striped dresses for no shortage of downtown appeal (think: lower East Side meets Brooklyn).
